Greenwich Street Roof Terrence

New York, NY.

M+S collaborated with Verdant Gardens as architect of record for a new roof terrace at a Landmarked Building located in the Tribeca Neighborhood of Manhattan.

Verdant designed the green space for this private residence with an interplay between the stone, foliage, and wood grain. The designers designed a network of embedded planters which create the a sense of an emergent garden, rising naturally out of the roof. The four distinct areas—the grill and kitchen, the dining area, the native grass pathway, and the sunken garden—flow into one another while maintaining defining discrete places to entertain or relax. Species native to New York, such as Calamagrostis, Amelanchier, Myrica, Nyssa, and Pinus rigida, were selected to develop a truly natural space in the middle of a bustling metropolis.

The garden will be suspended from a steel grid designed by Madsen Consulting Engineering. At this time, M+S has obtained approvals by the NYC DOB and Landmark Preservation Commission. Construction is expected to start during the spring of 2021.
